Chapter Head

We’re looking for a ‘Chapter Head’ to join our team in Birmingham – a senior role to head up one of our multidisciplinary teams, working on some great brands, with some amazing people.

In a nutshell

Our business is split into Chapters, think of it as Agencies within an Agency, and this role is to take the lead in one of those. Team leader and motivator. The buck stops with the Chapter Head. Externally responsible for strategic direction across all major accounts within the Chapter and the escalation point for any client issues. Internally, overall accountability for revenue, profitability and quality of work produced.

The basics

Excellent communicator and presenter. Strategically minded and experienced team or department manager. Well versed in all aspects of marketing communications with the ability to confidently advise clients on strategic solutions to their business challenges. Must be a passionate force within the agency and drive the Chapter.

The role spelt out

Client relationships

· Form strong, trusted and very close client relationships at all levels; particularly the most senior

· Be seen as the go-to person on the serious stuff (for example a new opportunity, an issue or personal support/advice)

· Prompt and support regular client reviews; use the findings

· Provide a conscience for client visibility of the Management Team

Team leadership

· Form very close relationships with the two lead creatives in the team and keep very close

· Create a powerful and close-knit team spirit within the Chapter, instill a belief that ‘together we can do amazing things’

· Use the one–to-one structure to provide clear direction for individuals but always be prepared to dive in and fix issues as you travel – don’t let things fester

· Provide on-the-job coaching to the client servicing team within the Chapter Team

· Lead by example and support career development of the entire team


· Lead strategic thought within the Chapter, draw on your experience to support brief development

· Keep close to sector developments and consumer insight to support thinking

· Provide support to the senior creative team to help to develop their thinking and ideas

· Support the senior team to deliver the strongest creative work possible

· Recognising the need to enlist strategic support of the Management Team or trusted external partners

Revenue delivery

· Accountable for the delivery of revenue targets within the Chapter

· Regular review and analysis of account profitability

· Regular reporting of actual and potential revenue within the client base and potential new relationships (including early warning of over/under delivery)

· Proactive as well as ‘reactive’ revenue mentality

· Share detail and provide supporting commentary with the wider Chapter team


· Engender a strong entrepreneurial spirit within the Chapter

· Encourage the team to support the finding of revenue opportunities both with existing client relationships and within each individual’s network

· Drive efficient ways of working within the team and provide clarity around the thinking and reasoning behind key commercial decisions

· Support the team to provide wider business support and ideas (beyond our scope of work) to our client base

· Be the conscience of client value to the agency based on profit, profile, future potential or just ‘doing good’
