Account Exec

Birmingham Competitive 13 Jul 2022

We’re looking for an account exec to join our team in Birmingham – a key role in one of our multidisciplinary teams, working on some great brands, with some amazing people.

In a nutshell

The super-bright team junior.  As the most junior member of the account team (usually a recent graduate), the Account Executive runs smaller projects and works closely with the wider account management team across the client portfolio. Externally, responsible for day-to-day delivery of smaller projects/tasks (and larger projects as experience grows) on specific accounts.  Within the agency – internal project management, time management and approvals – all to the agency standard processes.  Also provides administration support to the Chapter as a whole.

The basics

Likeable, bright, organised and passionate about the industry.  Hungry and eager to add value.  Good written and verbal communication skills.

The role spelt out

Relationships (internal and external)

  • Develop good day-to-day working relationships with all members of the agency in order to competently move work through the agency
  • Develop good relationships with junior clients and deliver projects as agreed under the guidance of the Account Manager or Account Director
  • Get close to accounts and get a rounded view of the clients’ businesses
  • Add value to a client account by doing industry research and competitive reviews

Organisation, management of time and attention to detail

  • Be a ‘safe pair of hands’ before anything else, focus on ‘to-do’ lists, status reports, contact reports etc
  • Develop a full understanding of how each account works, providing admin support to the Account Manager and Account Director
  • Organise time effectively to juggle a number of projects/tasks at the same, ensuring deadlines are always met
  • Develop a highly tuned attention to detail under the guidance of the Account Director – proof reading, written communications and writing reports

Project management

  • Project management duties will generally be on smaller independent projects/tasks or larger projects under close management by the Account Director and/or Account Manager
  • Responsible for actively managing projects/tasks and not just passively ‘handling’ them – this means being 100% engaged in every aspect of a project and applying thought
  • Develop ability to communicate honestly and quickly with all team members, especially if expectations cannot be met
  • Responsible for delivering projects/tasks to agreed timelines and managing resource internally as efficiently as possible
  • Support the Account Director to manage workload efficiently each week
  • Financial management of projects, including quoting and invoicing using the agency management system

Briefs and briefing

  • Develop ability under guidance of wider account team to interrogate client briefs and ensure absolute clarity and all information is collated in advance of internal creative briefings
  • Develop brief writing skills with an aim to eventually write clear, succinct creative briefs with clear deliverables for creative presentation and a well thought through proposition
  • Practice and develop writing creative briefs with support of Account Director and Chapter Head
  • Stay involved and attend all briefing and review meetings

  • Embrace a spirit of entrepreneurialism and add value to the Chapter, either through relevant proactive ideas or contacts via personal network
  • Keep the team updated on industry news and look to spot opportunities relevant to a client’s business

And in return…

  • Salary £Competitive (depending on experience)
  • Company pension scheme
  • 26 days’ holiday rising by a day a year to 30 days + Bank Holidays
  • Additional day off for your birthday
  • Electric Car Purchase Scheme, via Salary Sacrifice
  • Outstanding training and progression, including access to LinkedIn Learning and The Mission Group Learning Management System
  • Mission Share Purchase Scheme
